I want to use the magic keyboard as a wired one. If I plug up the usb charging cable then turn it off using the hardware switch, would this make it usb only? Also, would this eventually "overcharge" the keyboard and damage the battery?

It wouldn't overcharge and damage the battery so no worries there it also won't provide any advantage over using it with bluetooth so I can't see any good reason to do it.

The on/off switch will completely shut off the keyboard even when wired (i.e. with the switch off the keyboard will not function at all). With the keyboard wired I do not think it communicates over bluetooth - my system report shows Paired: Yes, Connected: No under Bluetooth Devices.

Could you test it for me by turning off bluetooth on your mac and trying it wired? I would greatly appreciate it!

Delete the pairing for the keyboard.
System Preferences/Bluetooth, delete your keyboard from the device list.

Wow you really must be doing something hush hush, either that or you have paranoia issues that should probably be treated.
Why is this any different than not wanting a keyboard logger on your machine? We protect ourselves in coffee shops by not using their unsecured public wifi. Why not just refrain from commenting rather than say he has issues that should be treated?

Exactly! If you live in an apartment 30 feet could include a lot of people.
