Most times when I use CMD+Space to launch Spotlight, and then try to input text to search, the text does not show in spotlight. In other words, the keys are not registering. This has occasionally happened in other apps, but not often. It happens with regularity in Spotlight.

Things I’ve tried: -Rebooting -Spraying canned air (like the good old butterfly-switch MPB days) -Repeatedly pressing the keys with enough force that should register input

It’s almost like iPadOS is not recognizing that the text field is “active” despite a blinking cursor indicating that the system is ready for text input.

The keyboard about 10 months old, so I’m still covered under Apple’s warranty. Before I call support and get aggravated with the lack of help, I wanted to see if you kind, smart folks had any solutions.

Thanks in advance.

Does the same thing happen when you click into the text field before typing?

You shouldn't have to, but as a diagnostic it would be useful.

No. Clicking into the text field seems to alleviate the issue.
Interesting. It seems that the Spotlight search field doesn't have focus for some reason. I've never encountered that before, but I suppose it nails down the issue a bit.

It happens to me on occasion - but I can’t say how to reproduce it exactly. Seems rather random. Just upgraded to 16.4 so we’ll see if the issue continues.
