I just got mine to work with my MacBook Pro and a Dell monitor. It works well.
Setting up the first Touch ID is non intuitive. See more here:

The finger print is stored in the enclave, so fingers programmed on either MacBook or Magic keyboard work on the other. But you do have to have a free fingerprint position to create the linkup,

The youtuber made the setup more difficult than necessary. Just use the lightning cable connected to the keyboard from the MacBook and everything is automatically set up. The keyboard is automatically authenticated and paired to Bluetooth.

I tried that! It connected fine after that but the finger print did not work.
Which M1 Mac did you use? My M1 MacBook Air did everything automatically even while originally asleep in clamshell mode.
