Magic Mouse a battery Vampire?

It took a mere 3 weeks before the new batteries went down to 38 % and the "low status" alarm went off once again.
It'll probably be good for another 2 weeks, but this is pathetic.
We are talking about 2 AA in there, what in gods given name is sucking so much energy in that little thing?

I'm thinking about switching to my old mouse, that one used one battery every 3 month.
Eat that Apple (no pun intendet)

Anyone out there encountering the same thing?
 
I've had mine since the day they came out. I have used it pretty much everyday and changed the batteries only once!

Wow, I find that hard to believe

Mine uses batteries quicker than I thought, but so does my keyboard
Meh, I just keep a supply of batteries because I like the mouse
 
Mine, and my keyboard, uses less batteries than I anticipated. I am always surprised when the message comes up telling me to replace the batteries. I have no idea how often that is though, cause I haven't paid attention. I don't change them when it tells me to though; I change them when it stops working.

I used the batteries that came with it. I use a 13" MBP and the mouse is never more than 12" away from the computer and switched off when not in use. :)

EDIT: Last week though I bought the Apple Battery recharger that comes with 6 rechargable Lithium batteries. So when they run out I'll charge them and pop the second set in. :)
 
when switched back on it always took around 2 minutes to reconnect which was also not acceptable...

just hooked on my Logitech VX again, bye bye magic mouse
 
Used Magic Mouse since I bought my iMac on the late August 2010, Mouse 64% Keyboard 62%. I use the computer/mouse and keyboard everyday.

So far so good:)
 
i thought about the magic mouse so often , but that makes me to keep my
microsoft arch mouse , the batteries last usually about 4-5+ month and in constant use , i only fold the mouse (switches the mouse off) when i put the iMac to sleep and the mouse is more comfortable to use too as i can easy rest my hand on it without clicking and scrolling by mistake , and its using so little power that i really forget that its a wireless mouse
i dont want to subsidize the battery industry i asked so often why they dont make a inductive charger into the foot of the iMac , so i could just place the keyboard / mouse on it when i put the imac to sleep and get it charge , but no for every gimmick there is cash available but for useful inventions not
 
my apple batteries shows 93% when i installed it fully charged, installed my eneloop this times and it was showing 100% when in installed it fresh, my eneloop are a year old as compared to apples rechargeable batteries, battery lasts almost 6 weeks. i use system few hours a day and more on weekends.
 
I just got this iMac 2 days ago and the batteries are already at 85%! What's going on??

they do seem to run down quickly. but i am convinced after months of using a magic mouse that the % displayed is a load of crap.

if you ignore the percentage display, they seem to use batteries like a normal piece of computer equipment.
 
the magic mouse is just using power, all these features have to be transmitted , so its just doing its job and needs feeding with energy which comes from the batteries , just buy some big boxes batteries ,so you got enough supply over the next couple month


i guess thats one reason why lots of magic mice are for sale on ebay as "only used a couple times "

not very eco friendly, so it seems to be adviseable to buy rechargeable ones and a charger
 
I average a month of battery life on the magic mouse and 4 months for the keyboard. Nothing too bad, at all. I expected the magic mouse to drain somewhat quickly, as it is touch sensitive, and always has to track your finger positioning and pressure on its surface.

It's not pressure sensitive, not sure where you got that. It's mechanical. You click it down.

And it doesn't track your finger positioning. It "activates" scrolling when it notices movement. Similar, but not the same by any means. Meaning if you move (not slide) your finger from the top of the mouse to the bottom, it won't use any power.

1 month is not acceptable for a wireless mouse. All other mice go for 6+ months on even 1 AA battery.

edit: man... I'm sorry about that, don't mean to come off mean or anything. I got nothing but bad things to say about iMacs and Apple products in general since getting this iMac. <1 month mouse battery life, screen whizzing/buzzing, yellow tinting on 3 iMacs. Apple has really gone down hill
 
If you click "show live view" under 1 and 2 finger taps for bettertouchtool, you can see how the magic mouse works in real time.
