Magic mouse and gaming yuk

What do you people do for gaming when it comes to mice ?

I have the wired and wireless imac keyboards and also a magic mouse.

I find the magic mouse yuk for gaming now and the wireless keyboard keys very small

Any options ?

Both the Apple wireless keyboard and the Magic Mouse are terrible for gaming.

I find the Mighty Mouse to be acceptable, but not great. And I use the old style Apple Wireless keyboard (with the numberpad). That works great.

Get a mouse with buttons
 
I find the Apple Bluetooth aluminium wireless keyboard is fine for me (though the older Apple Bluetooth keyboard, the one with the numpad is a bit better), the Magic Mouse though is no good for gaming at all.

When I want to play games I use a wired Logitech 2 button + scroll wheel mouse, which is the cheapest mouse I could find. Played through Half Life 2 and the two episodes, Portal and lots of WoW with it, plus a few other games.

Which keyboard is that ?
 
Although I've never tried gaming with the Magic Mouse, I have found the Logitech Marble Mouse to be (surprisingly) useful for gaming.

It's an acquired feel though.

It'll depend on what type of games you play and your gaming style. For most people an inexpensive, lower end Logitech will be more than sufficient. I thought I was in that demographic until I got a Razer mouse. The customization options are so amazingly convenient and useful that I could never go back to any mouse without comparable features--there certainly are other companies that make mice with similar features too, but most don't seem to provide the Mac support, though limited, that Razer does.

If you're into FPS, it seems the best mouse now is one by Mad Catz, called the R.A.T. 7 (or R.A.T. 9, if you want the wireless version). Read some reviews and watch the site's vids on it and you'll come away with the strong impression there's nothing better for a demanding FPSer. Downside is that there's no Mac drivers, so the things that make it amazing won't work for you unless you Boot Camp.

If you're into DoTA style games like League of Legends or Heroes of Newerth, or any MMORPG, the Razer Naga appears to be the best. I'll most likely get it. Looks like it has limited Mac drivers, but I have a Windows system too, so if it can allow me to transfer configuration settings while in Windows to the Mac, then I'll get it for sure.

Meanwhile I'm using the Razer Orochi. It's incredible. It has features I never thought I'd use, but I'm using them all. It has 7 buttons, and again I'm using them all. There is one feature in it that's not working, but I can't tell if it's a Mac driver issue or just me, so I can't really recommend this mouse with total confidence. Been communicating with Razer Support for about a month over it.

And if you want wireless, be aware there's 2 types: RF wireless (which requires a little USB dongle) and Bluetooth. The latter is "truly wireless" in that it requires no USB attachment--100% clutter free. The Orochi is one of the few Bluetooth gaming mice out there, and the one with the best reviews.
 
My personal gaming mouse recommendation is the Logitech G9x.

Great Mac and Windows drivers, comfortable, has 2 grips to customize, can customize the weight of the mouse, up to like 5500 DPI, adjustable on the fly.

It's a bit expensive though, at about 70-100 depending on where you go.
 
i use a razer deathadder. it works wonderfully for fps and anything else. your best bet is to download USB overdrive to go with whatever mouse you get to have full control over what it does. Besides the deathadder, it seems most of logitech's gaming mice are great. I would grab one of those or a deathadder and have fun!

I personally can't recommend the Deathadder, as my buttons completely wore out after a years worth of usage. :( First mouse I've ever had that happen to.
 
Really? I've been using Apple's wired aluminium keyboard for years and its been great (I'm a semi-pro TF2/L4D player). Used to have the chunky bluetooth one but it was horrendous to use, but on a personal level I can't stand thick keyboards like that.
Worse still is the lag from wireless devices.

Apple's mice are worthless for games. I tend to switch between Razer mice, at the moment I'm using a Diamondback 3G because it's light and fast but the comfiest I used for years was the Microsoft/Razer Habu. That thing was just comfy.
 
As mentioned recently in another thread, think twice about using a wireless keyboard for raiding if/when playing WoW. Do any wireless keyboard have a power meter showing how much time they have left on the current batteries?

Not that I've seen, at-least with Apples and a Logitech one I have.
You can check the battery level of Apple ones in the System Preferences though.

Yup! Had my BT keyboard die on my during a TF2 match. Wasn't so bad though, was exploring a map and was already in a really useful spot as a sniper. Used up my rounds then hit the power switch.

There is lag from any wireless device.
Razer support 1000Hz ultrapolling on their mice which has a 1ms delay. A normal wired mouse has an 8ms delay. A wireless one will be more.

I didn't experience any with it. Though there is inherently lag with wireless devices, if the delay is low, you won't notice it.

My Razer Orochi mouse has Bluetooth and Wired mode. I sense no difference in responsiveness when on Bluetooth.
