I'm interesting in upgrading to a Magic Trackpad 2 so I can use it wired with my cMP, not over Bluetooth. It's not officially listed as compatible with the cMP, but there are YouTube videos showing it does work via Bluetooth... But has anyone used it over USB on a cMP?

The reason I want to use USB is because I intend to use my LED Cinema Display as a USB hub for a KVM switch so the keyboard and trackpad will follow the display to which ever computer it's connected to.

Using one wired right now.

It is compatible, or at least it should be, the new model has a braided USB-C to lightning cable, which is the only difference between it, and the previous version (it's also available in black).

When it's plugged in, it uses the wired connection to communicate, not the bluetooth connection.

The problem will be that when you disconnect them from the cMP by switching the KVM, they will possibly jump to the cMPs bluetooth connection. The act of hardwiring them pairs them to Bluetooth as well, and you can't unpair them. So, you'd possibly need to disable bluetooth entirely on the cMP. Now it might be that the switchover pairs them to the other computer you're using, and that might override the BT link to the first machine, but just be aware of it.

Very helpful, thank you. Disabling Bluetooth wouldn’t be a problem. I don’t use Continuity or AirDrop on this machine, so all it’s doing is input devices, and once I go all wired ain’t no need for Bluetooth anymore.

I also had to disable BT for my Magic Keyboard with Lock Key (AKA Magic Keyboard II) when using a KVM, it's an extremely annoying and unexpected behavior.
