Hi everyone the time has nearly arrived to get my first mac. Next week im getting the quad core i5 iMac + Magic Trackpad. Has anyone got the magic trackpad what do you think of it? is it kind of like using the touch screen on the ipad, iphone and ipod with the gestures + more?

I had the opportunity to use one over the weekend. It's pretty sweet. Imagine the MacBook/MacBook Pro's trackpad, only bigger, and there ya have it.

Have fun with your new iMac. :)

First off congratulations on the soon to be purchase. I haven't bought one yet, but I did play with one at the Apple store over the weekend. I'm not sure I would compare it with the iPad, but it's very much like using the track pad on an Apple laptop. It was funny that the track pad didn't work some of of their demo machines. I'm guessing they didn't update the OS with the patch. The ones that did work, was exactly like the laptop. One finger moves the cursor, two scrolls and three will move forward and backwards pages in Safari. You can also make text bigger and smaller my pinching and opening your fingers. I was tempted to buy one, but it's not the easiest thing to use playing Farmville.:) I still might go out this weekend and get one.

i can't vote because i'm in the "i don't know" category. i am very intrigued by it, though.

The Trackpad will not replace the mouse. Ever play games with a trackpad? Paint in photoshop? Multitask audio tracks in Logic audio? It is a nightmare with a trackpad. The trackpad is a worthy add-on but far from replacement.
 
Mine came today (though my new i7 is still on its way). I like that it takes up so little desk space compared with a mouse.
 
ive got one and i must say i like it a lot. its perfect for web browsing and general surfing, image flicking and word processing stuff (mainly because of the three finger swipe to back and forward, better than the magic mouse for the gestures). granted i could not use it in games or my pro applications as it doesnt offer the pointing precision.

im a traditional mouse user at heart but for general run of the mill stuff i find it easy to use and generally a bit more casual than the mouse. the bluetooth has excellent range and it feels dead sturdy

Recommended imo but not as a replacement, a compliment.
 
I'm going with a "qualified" yes. I intend to link both a Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad (I CAN, right??) to my upcoming iMac purchase - one for from-sofa use and the other for desk use.
 
for me it was a no brainer to buy the trackpad becuse I surf the net from my coach and sometimes my bed.

its so much easier with the trackpad then a mouse when using it from your bed. :D
 
I'm going to have to vote that I'm not getting one.

Because I've already got one. Using it right now. It's pretty cool :)
 
It looks great; however, I will wait to see bugs and other negative/pro comments before purchase. My magic mouse works just fine for now.

I did however; purchase, the new Apple Battery charger with the six rechargeable batteries. It arrived today! It appears to be just what the adds say. I did have to recharge the battery, that was in the device as when I plugged it in it showed a 'red' light, indicating it needed a charge. So, I suspect the other batteries will need a charge as well.
 
I posted a similar thread earlier. I got the quad-core i5 iMac last Thursday and got a Magic Trackpad to go with it. After trying it in the store, I was hooked!

I've been using only the Trackpad since I got the iMac, but tried out the Magic Mouse last night. I used it for about 30 seconds before I went right back to the Trackpad:D

That said, dragging and dropping is just better with a mouse, period. The whole tap to drag, tap to release deal with the Trackpad can be a little frustrating when you accidentally start dragging stuff everywhere.

So I plan on using the Magic Trackpad for everyday use, and the Magic Mouse for tasks and apps that require a lot of clicking and dragging that would be better suited for the mouse.

PS - Love the i5 27" iMac:p It was huge when I first started using it last Thursday and every day it gets smaller and smaller as I get used to it --- good to know for those who are scared of the 27"'s size. You get used to it.

Fix your signature --- I think you mean 17" iMac G-4....not an i7;)

Got one the other day and am I impressed! Still getting used to the trackpad instead of the mouse on the desktop but so far I'm loving it!
 
I voted yes.

But not right away. I can't justify the cost right now because my Magic Mouse that came with my iMac is too new....but I do plan on getting one in the next 6months or so. Maybe I'll get it from my wife for my birthday in Oct. or for X-mas.

I love the trackpad on my MBP way better than the magic mouse on my iMac. It will be the perfect add-on for me to enjoy my computer even more!
