On Android, you can.
On iOS, it should be possible with third party app, Apple approves third party apps to use sensor data.

EDIT2: And I have found an actual app itself: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/electromagnetic-detector-emf/id836603095?mt=8
Try look for more third party apps. Maybe you find some that has both compass and magnetometer bundled together.

That's what I have been looking for, but have not been able to find it.
It's just surprising that they are plentiful on Android but nothing for iOS.
