FYI, the new iPad Pro has so many strong magnets that you can hang it on a vertical metal surface. It feels like a moderately strong hold, too.

I imagine this would also work on a fridge. I meant to try it on my fridge last night, but forgot, but it sticks to the heater in my office just fine, lol. So does the Apple Pencil. Only thing I'm not sure about is if the camera bump would get in the way, but I don't have a big enough flat surface to try it on at the moment (the vent slots are uneven). Also this works in the folio case as well, which eliminates the camera bump. Here is my 12.9" model hanging in my office, without the case on:

EDIT: Tested it this evening and it does attach to refrigerators as well, lol. I was hesitant to try it because those steel handles are what cracked the display on my Series 0 Watch exactly two years ago today on the presidential election day.

Well that is braver then I would be. Cool to see though.
I tried it in the case first, slowly placing it on there, and then tried to pull it off, and was met with more than enough resistance so I felt comfortable with leaving it there. Then tried without a case. It's only 2.5-3ft off the ground over carpet. I'm pretty careful with my devices, but if you're attaching to magnetic metal, I wouldn't really hesitate unless it's on something that moves.

Figured this information might be useful for someone who wants to stick it on the side of their fridge (the door might not be a good idea with momentum possibly flinging it off) while cooking to check recipes and get it up out of the way of the mess. Or it might be good for someone who has some metal in their walls or some other surface in an office or home where they might want to stick it up when not in use or as a photo frame. When I saw the keynote and the dozens of magnets all over I knew that I needed to try this, lol.

Now I want to Kickstart a magnetic car mount for this thing, lol.

Don’t forget about portable mechanical hard drives either! I just added another photo of it on my fridge.

I have no idea how the compass works in this thing but it does seem to work in maps when I spin it around.

Thank you for showing me this. This is Hilarious, amazing and useful.

Still trying to figure what I’ll use it

Really hope accesory makers start to use these magnets - I use a Tacx iPad mount everyday with my bike on the turbo trainer : https://tacx.com/product/bracket-for-tablets/ for Zwift or TrainerRoad, it’s a small annoyance opening and adjusting it each day to fit the iPad in - a simlar mount to what I have that just snapped on a flat back with magnets would be great!

That is not a terrible idea, get the cheapest one and it's a digital notebook for the kitchen

Dang I’m worried this thing would magnetize my automatic watches. That would be an expensive mishap.

I was thinking and cringing at the same thing. Should be fine though unless your covering your watches with it.

Brave yes, but this gave me an idea for $4.99 I will sell a iPad Fridge Magnet to Reinforce what it can already do so it won’t slide off. My source in China says he can make them for $0.50 cents each.
Now I need a artist to design packaging for me. Hope to have this product on eBay and Amazon before Christmas.
Tons of Fridge mounts already exists but are $20+ and bulky I’ll offering more of what I consider a Magnet Ledge, to support it from below. And the sides so it won’t fly off if you slam the fridge door.

Thanks to Apple for adding the expensive Neodymium magnets already which provide most of the stability out of the box.

It lasts for weeks at a time. I just take it off and charge it once a month. It’s held on with the Scoshce brand magnet system I use in my car.

I think you mean first generation iPad, non-Air, right? Those bezels are too thick for an Air, aren’t they?

Yeah I think you’re right. I gave the air to my son and took the old iPad...3 maybe and used that.

This seems to be good and bad, I noticed that metal tables at like Starbucks, my iPad is sucked to the table and hard to move...

So I have taken this idea to a new level...and i think this is the KILLER FEATURE on the ipad. LOL but no LOL....

Just throwing it onto any metal surface is actually a very useful thing and if they change this, i would be so sad. The folio case which add some friction makes it stick much better. So I throw it up on metal cabinets and if my bathroom had metal walls, i would throw it up on there. I need a metal wall or surface near my bed as well to place this on there. SO many possibilities!!
