Finally I have arrived.....
I keep the dock small. I use the magnification feature so that I can click on the right app icon as it make the icon gets bigger and makes it easy for me to click on the app of my choice. I don't think it uses that much resources.

i dont use it. too distracting and inaccurate.

I keep it on the left; easy access to folders on the desktop, and i can have word and photoshop things going the full height of the display :)

No magnification.

I actually don't use the dock that much at all. I use QuickSilver. The dock mostly stays hidden just off the top right corner of my screen... :)

i have my dock on auto hide, Minimum size and Max magnification.
The Auto Hide so it is out of the way when I don't use it, plus when I maximize the window it doesn't get obstructed by the doc.
Minimum Icon size so if I have a lot of minimized apps or running apps they stay there without readjusting its size so the dock size stays consistent no matter how much stuff I am running. Max magnification because some icons give important status on the application and some application are only on the icon. Max magnification gives you the most detail.

Besides it really shows of the OS and people who haven't seen OS X before when they see it they usually get a ohh and ahh from it.

It all comes down to what you like. I know some people keep their dock icons very small so the dock does not take up a lot of space if they don't hide it. Having the magnification makes it so you can see what you are clicking on even if the dock is very small. I just keep my dock an average size and hide it. It is all in what you prefer :)

Magnification makes stuff move around, detrimental to muscle memory. I keep my dock in the lower right corner of the screen (Trash always in the same place) with no magnification so I can easily hit stuff on it without having to worry about them moving about.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Depends on how much memory I have for the specific computer, and how many icons are on the dock. If it's on, the magnification setting is just about halfway.

Can't stand it...it's like aiming at a moving target. My fiancée uses it, and it drives me batty when I use her account because I'm too lazy to log into my own account on that machine.

I like it, with Hiding mode, over on the left side. And I still use WindowShade since back in the OS 9 days.

Dock is on the left side of the left(15" ASD TFT) monitor, main monitor old 23"ACD. Dock icons(71 icons) are smallest, magnification max.

I like my dock visible, at a small/medium size with slight magnification. I don't like to hide the dock, as I want to be able to look down to see what apps are running. Also, some apps display a progress bar on the dock icon - this is also somewhat useful at times.
