Wouldn't it be possible to have an adaptor to allow you to use your old *book power adaptors with a MBP? How hard would it be to have a little thing that takes your old adaptor and has a magsafe dealie on the other end? That being said, couldn't there be a magsafe adaptor for older *books as well? A simple device that takes your old adaptor, has a magnetic breakaway section, and then plugs into the old-style power port?

Given that the power adapters are up to 85W, Apple probably doesn't want you using older adapters to try to power your MBP. Or using MBP's adapter to power an older iBook/PB.

I suppose that's a good point. It probably does make sense to make a clean break from the past adaptors when the tech has come a far, far, way since they were originally introduced.

EDIT: I see in your sig that you have a wide range of Apple laptops. Do you interchange the adaptors?

Ignoring the 85 vs 65 watt difference between the two bricks (thus giving not enough for your MBP or frying your i/PB), I don't see why an adaptor couldn't be made to allow the circle end be converted into a magsafe for MBP owners.

But to go the other way around (adapting a i/PB for use with a magsafe adapter), you would have a little dongley piece sticking out of the computer. One of two things happens. One, I don't think that it would hold well enough to allow the magsafe end to breakaway and would bend just like the current ends. Two, the dlngly piece is permanently attached, and break when you take the i/PB somewhere.

Good point, I think. It would be relatively trivial to make what you suggest, and I think it'd be worthwhile for owners of older (i.e., not brand spanking new) Apple lappies.

Sounds reasonable!
