I'm using a 16inch m1, I find I still enjoy using a type c 96w charger that comes with an old intel MacBook, type c is more simple, this is really not a downgrade..

Not sure how type c is more simple. MagSafe just snaps in without even having to push. It also is easier to remove. That seems simpler to me. And I don't see how the "bulk" (I'm assuming you just mean the connector is wider) negatively affects anything.

You don't get fast charging unless you use MagSafe, but that's not a huge deal to me. Why not just use the charger that came with the m1 and swap in the USB C cable if that's what you prefer?

I agree with @usagora though, I don't see what is bulky or more complicated about MagSafe. To each their own.

I did not even take out the Apple charger and cable out of the box for my MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021). I am using a third party 100W charger and cable.

Ditto. MagSafe is nice, but convenience for me is more important.

+1 here I been using the Nekteck 100W USB C Charger

One major reason I bought these machines was the return of MagSafe. It’s one of my favorite features. I wore out more than one USB-C connector constantly plugging/unplugging my laptop.

It’s the only way to fast charge them as well.

I guess I’m missing the point here. Are you complaining about the power bricks being bigger?

Where is this yellow indicator light? I couldn't find it.
There isn’t one.

Can I use the mbp charger, and instead of using the magsafe cord, just plug a usb-c cable?

I've worn out more MagSafe connectors (2) than USB-C connectors (0) and definitely prefer the latter, at least the new machines kept the possibility to charge over USB.

I've worn out one MagSafe connector since my 2008 MacBook Pro. I'm a big fan of it. The nice thing about the new version is that you can just replace the cable if it goes bad.

Absolutely, that's great! The worst experience for me was a MagSafe connector on a MacBook Air that went bad on the computer side. With the USB-C ports I at least have a few more to use if one dies.

Absolutely an option. You will lose fast charging capability, though.

I should have clarified that I wore out the USB-C connectors in the laptop. I’ve never had a MagSafe go bad on the computer side, but it’s nice to know that if that did happen, I can still charge the laptop until I get it sent off for repairs.

I rarely have cords go bad, but I’m particular about how I store/travel with them. PTSD from the old days when the only option was to drop $100 on a completely new charger.

Being able to easily replace the charging cord was one of the better decisions that Apple has made.
