I did not even take out the Apple charger and cable out of the box for my MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021). I am using a third party 100W charger and cable.
I'm using a 16inch m1, I find I still enjoy using a type c 96w charger that comes with an old intel MacBook, MagSafe charger is bulky with a yellow indicator light, type c is more simple, this is really not a downgrade..
+1 here I been using the Nekteck 100W USB C ChargerI did not even take out the Apple charger and cable out of the box for my MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021). I am using a third party 100W charger and cable.
There isn’t one.Where is this yellow indicator light? I couldn't find it.
You don't get fast charging unless you use MagSafe, but that's not a huge deal to me. Why not just use the charger that came with the m1 and swap in the USB C cable if that's what you prefer?
I agree with @usagora though, I don't see what is bulky or more complicated about MagSafe. To each their own.
Can I use the mbp charger, and instead of using the magsafe cord, just plug a usb-c cable?
I've worn out more MagSafe connectors (2) than USB-C connectors (0) and definitely prefer the latter, at least the new machines kept the possibility to charge over USB.One major reason I bought these machines was the return of MagSafe. It’s one of my favorite features. I wore out more than one USB-C connector constantly plugging/unplugging my laptop.

Absolutely, that's great! The worst experience for me was a MagSafe connector on a MacBook Air that went bad on the computer side. With the USB-C ports I at least have a few more to use if one dies. The nice thing about the new version is that you can just replace the cable if it goes bad.

I've worn out one MagSafe connector since my 2008 MacBook Pro. I'm a big fan of it. The nice thing about the new version is that you can just replace the cable if it goes bad.
