MagSafe issues

Hey...I've recently begun having issues with my MagSafe on my MacBook Pro that I got in August.

I went to go charge my computer yesterday after watching a movie on the battery with a friend. Rather than get the Amber light, I plugged the computer in and it lit up with a very faint green light. The computer showed that it was operating off of AC power and acted like it, with the screen getting brighter and all. In the battery menu, it read "Calculating....until full" without ever updating. I finally checked the percentage and found my battery was draining! So then I took the battery out to see if the computer would run without the battery in it and just with the MagSafe. Well, interestingly, it does. So, what could be the problem here? Its obviously the MagSafe or the battery, but I have no idea how to find out which one. My OS X install DVDs are elsewhere, so I can't run the hardware diagnostic. I have reset PRAM and the SMC. Your help is appreciated!

it is for reasons like this...u buy apple care...

i would say that it is ur power adapter...remember that if the voltage sinks...i.e. the airplane charger it will run the computer, but not charge the computer, power adapters are known to overhead and lose their voltage...it happened with my 2month old power adapter on my powerbook...

While we're at it, is it just me or is it odd having the magsafe on the macbook pro on the left. It seems no matter where I am at the power comes from my right and I have to drape the cord behind the computer or along my feet to the left side of the laptop? It would be cool if there was one on each side.

Do you have an apple store near you? I'm having the same trouble and was able to swap out both the battery and the AC adaptor and I'm still having the same things happen. Even did a full reinstall of the OS to make sure it wasn't a software issue. Still no go.

So on monday it goes into shop to get checked out. You're still on your warranty, just not on "phone support". I have heard that if its a hardware problem you will not be charged for the call, so you could try calling.

If there is an Apple store near you, take the macbook in and see if you can try plugging it in to their demo model to see if it solves the problem. If it doesn't, it might have to go in for service.

It's just you. I always find the power socket to my left.

I have the same issue, and so have probably most people. If the connector was on the other side, it would probably be just the same (Some scientists in the UK found that if you are a traffic jam, it always looks as if the other lanes always move faster, no matter what lane you're in yourself. Some psychological thing. )

Having a connector on both sides is probably slightly difficult, because you would have to feed a power connection all through the computer from one side to the other, but probably worth it.

If you have one on the right side you'll have forego either a firewire or USB port.

I had a bad mag on my last macbook Apple replaced it
