Hello everyone!
As the title suggest, what do you think of having MagSafe on an iPad mini?

I've wondering about this for a while, and I think it could be cool to have an iPad mini with a MagSafe ring on its back.
I have seen cases that do have a magsafe ring, but I believe those are only for sticking stuff onto the back surface, not to mention they look questionable to me.

I’d love to see it. The main drawback to Apple is likely that people will try to use it as a magnetic “mount” like on iPhones, and the current MagSafe magnets won’t handle that sort of mass.

Solution is either (a) a whole separate MagSafe for iPads, or maybe (b) offset the MagSafe to one edge where there’s NO WAY it would hold the iPad magnetically, even for a second.

The iPad has a metal back so MagSafe could only be used for attaching things.

Wait wait, is that why then the iPhone has a glass back?

Now this makes a million times more sense.
Apple has used glass backs long before wireless charging, but wireless charging is why they don't have a metal back. Even the iPhone 5/5S had top and bottom glass panels for reception.

The annoying thing is, iPads already have a magnetic charger — the "smart connector" that the "smart folio" and keyboard and whatnot connect to.

Those would be enormously useful on all models of iPads, but… nope.

I’d like MagSafe on all iPads actually. I’d love it on my iPad Pro 11. It’d be nice to mount and charge it without a cable sticking out the side, and I’d really appreciate the ability to use a MagSafe battery when I’m on the go. I have a 10,000 mAh battery that is very light and would work well.

iPads would need to switch to a glass back for wireless charging to work. Plus, Apple would want to center the MagSafe ring and that prevent the back of the 11” Magic Keyboard from folding.

Just seems awkward to me. Might be useful in a very specific pinch, but in general Magsafe isn’t designed for devices this big.

I would really like to see MagSafe on the iPad mini, just like on the iPhone! It would be perfect for charging and for mounting in your car for navigation. It totally makes sense! There's no reason it shouldn't have it in 2024!

I am strongly against a glass back on any ipad for this feature. Adds weight and fragility. Not a fan.

Add the smart connector dots on the mini instead. The ipad is already filled with magnets for the smart covers to work.

True that, looking at both the iPhone 15 pro and pro max proportions of the magsafe ring, it does look take a big portion of the back of the device and a pretty big one.

My guess it that it would have to be a bigger ring, possibly rendering all iPhone accessories incompatible. I mean I'm sure there would be accessories, but I indeed doubt that a ring this size would actually be able to hold a larger tablet. It would be cool though!

Oh wow, I totally forgot about the Magic Keyboard and the Smart Folio. Yeah this could definitely interfere with that.
Wow this no longer sounds like a great idea.

Seeing the amount of trouble I have just keeping my pro max on a charger and not falling out after hitting some small bump, I can certainly see this being an immediate problem with my mini. Besides, most iPads are not cellular and plenty cars have CarPlay already build in today.
