MagSafe Out = Power Off ?

I searched and searched, but couldn't find any information on this online or in the manual.

My MBP's battery is fully charged, yet if I have it plugged in, and if the MagSafe connector accidently get's pulled out (like when I'm working in bed)... the computer just shuts off.

Is this supposed to happen ?

Nah, that's not normal. Does the machine run off battery normally, if you start it up whilst not plugged in? Is the battery fitting snugly into the bottom of the MacBook?

Haha... I just had the perfect test. My wife was coming to bed with my little boy, and while getting out of bed to move to our other room (and halfway through a reply to this thread ), the MagSafe unplugged and after a few seconds, the computer turned off.

Of course, after booting up, I was immediately hit with the whining noise (haven't put MagicNoiseKiller to run on login yet), and when opening my browser, realized that my AirPort wasn't connected to my wireless network (which it fails to connect almost every time on boot, and after waking). Oh... and the thing nearly burnt me when carrying it to the other room

Sooo... I think I definitely got a lemon on my hands... but am sooo going to hate to send this thing back.
Quick question.... when you send a computer back for a replacement, do they do the courtesy of replicating your drive for you ? So hoping so, as I literally spent two days getting my development environment setup on this thing.

Oh yeah.... and, my battery says 99% and sometimes 100%, so assuming the battery is working as it should.

Ok... it looks like my battery is shot all together. I let it charge all night long, unplugged the MagSafe, tried to turn the computer on... no dice.
I tried to ensure the battery was all snug and safe, but that didn't work either.

Just return it to Apple for a fix man.
They'll get your laptop brand new in a few days and none of these problems will happen again

you may not have a lemon

you may have your screen set to autodim when on battery power

check that first.

the first few times that my powerbook did that, I was disgruntled.

That firmware update doesn't affect the wireless issue. The Airport firmware update was actually included in the 10.4.6 update Apple recently released.

Not that any of this helps, unplugging shouldn't make it shut down, that's what the batteries are for!

Have you checked the battery is charging OK?

The battery lights were lighting up (all of them) when I pressed the button, and I confirmed that the battery was charged.

I ended up talking to some very cool Apple support people, and they had me go through the steps of upgrading the OS first (to 10.4.6), and then the firmware upgrade.
Unfortunately, the firmware upgrade went horribly wrong for some unknown reason, and the computer wouldn't even boot after the reboot.

Strange thing is, the computer would be "on", but the screen was black (confirmed the brightness was up to max), the caps lock led wouldn't toggle, the sleep indicator light "was" on, and the superdrive sounded like it was trying to eject a disk, over and over again.

Unfortunately, I went from not being able to use my computer with only the battery to not being able to boot the computer at all

It's now in the hands of my local Apple shop as of an hour ago, so I'll keep you all posted as to the conclusion.

Just wanted to let you all know that my local shop had to get a new LogicBoard from Apple in order to fix the problem

I'll keep you posted when I figure out "exactly" what the problem was when I talk to them in detail.

Sooo... after 1 week of waiting, the Apple store fixing my MBP tells me that Apple had sent them a broken LogicBoard.

They were obviously bummed too, as they had to take the time to do the install, testing, etc.

Just have to vent. This is my first Apple, and they are not impressing me

This must be a battery connection issue the magsafe conecter is an almost direct link to the battery so even though this makes NO sense its probably your MagSafe.

Let's hope not, otherwise they'll have done two LogicBoard installs for nothing !!... unless the broken MagSafe piece is "on" the LogicBoard that is.

My battery life on the screen was showing 100%, the little lights on the back of the battery all lit up when I pushed the button... so, yeah. Confused... but I'll keep you posted.

2 weeks after my Apple support call about the battery issue which ends up leaving my computer un-bootable (a 2 "hour" call)... I get my computer back from the local Apple shop with a bootable computer... BUT THE BATTERY STILL DOESN'T WORK.

HOLY SH*T.
At least my computer @#$%^& booted before I called Apple support.
At least it boots now, right ?

I don't have time for this. I had this computer long enough to make it my primary development machine, then this crap happens. This is completely rediculous, and this is probably my last Apple purchase.

I feel like I bought a super, high performance Pinto... owned it for a few days, and then had to turn it into a bunch of retarded monkeys for repair.

Demand a replacement. That's all you have to do. Hopefully (and probably if you complain enough), they will give you one.
