Just realized an awesome consequence of Apple allowing USB-C charging from the iPhone. When traveling you'll only need a single power brick, a MagSafe charging cable, and a USB-C AppleWatch charging cable. Charging both devices with the minimalist chargers out there, like the Anker Nano Pro, is pretty awesome! You can also do the same with AirPods and AirPods Pro since they can also charge off the AppleWatch charger. This is pretty killer for charing up devices on an airplane when you usually have two outlets for three seats. Just thought I would throw that out there, since I haven't really seen anyone else mention it yet.

While I obviously like that Apple finally phased out Lightning and switched the iPhone to USB-C, the company decided not to develop a new battery setup that can take advantage of the extra power that direct USB PD offers as compared to the previous USB-C to Lightning implementation of USB PD. The only difference is the fact that you do not have to switch cables anymore to power the iPhone vs other devices.

I have charged my Apple Watch using my iPad Ona couple of occasion. It’s handy. As you said, for travelling it can be handy to use the iPhone or iPad as a power source for emergency charging.

I don't quite understand, how that works. Magsafe is charging the iPhone and iPhone is charging the Watch via USB-C and Watch's own magsafe?

Pass-through charging with wireless as primary source. That's probably gonna kill the iPhone battery quite fast.

Just get a tiny double USB-C charger and that's it.

Yes.

Depends. If the coil is managed to directly power the usbc port it doesn’t affect battery.

On the other way the apple watch has such a tiny battery it shouldn’t be a big deal
