I waste my time reading some of the articles on FlipBoard and there was an article on BGR suggesting that Apple should have dropped the MagSafe3 port and just given us an extra usb-c on the MacBook laptops.

I was wondering how many use the MagSafe as their primary charing port, and would you have preferred an extra usb-c port (be it a usb3 or a Thunderbolt4) in it's place?

For me, I have been very happy with the MagSafe3 and have on several occasions been saved by the plug pulling off the Mac as I accidentally trip on the cable, rather than the MacBook flying to the floor. But from the port perspective, I haven't found that I need to have that extra TB4 or usb-c port to get anything done. More it's I needed an Ethernet port, or needed to plug in some usb-a devices that need a hub or dongle to work. All that has been covered quite fine with the two free TB4 ports that are already on my M2 MBA. So I prefer the magsafe3 thank you Apple.

People will find anything to complain about. The 8 vs 16 memory issue. When (or if) 16 gig becomes standard people will complain about 16 vs 24 vs 32. A lot of that is just propeller heads that believe their opinion is the only opinion that matters.

I have no issues with MagSafe. Or only 2 USB-C ports. If I need more, I would just add a hub. On the road two USB-C is plenty. On the road I use my two USB-C ports to charge my iPhone and my Apple Watch. All my files are stored in OneDrive as that is safer than carrying a thumb drive that can be easily lost.

Yes, the whole point of Magsafe was that the connector would pull out if someone snagged the cord and reduce the chance of the attached laptop falling on the floor. The new Magsafe laptops can be charged through a USB-C port if needed.
That’s the main reason why I’m glad they brought it back. It’s not only more convenient but safer. It has saved my laptop more than once.

Magsafe is great. I don't see why you couldn't have both.

I thought the same.

But I don't think they removed it for MagSafe.

Rather for HDMI and the card reader, what might have taken the bandwidth for a fourth TB port and they don't want to confuse users with one of four being only a USB-Port but looking the same.

But if they had to removed it for HDMI and the card reader, there had been enough bandwidth to add other ports like Ethernet and USB-A 3.2 Gen2 too. I never need the HDMI port and card reader, but Ethernet and USB-A every day. Would save me a Hub or Dock most of the time.

Edit: Sorry, I just recognized it's about the Air. But that didn't have more TB ports before MagSafe3. But they could give it two USB-C 3.x ports in addition like the iMac has.
