Mail/Addr. Bk v. Entourage

Am I missing something? After a recent upgrade to OS X, I checked out Mail and Address book, and compared them to Entourage. While Mail and AB have the great Mac look and feel, they seem woefully underfeatured compared to Entourage. Address book seems to have a very limited set of information that one can store. Mail seems to limit configurations greatly.

Now, I'll admit I'm far more familiar with entourage (and outlook/outlook express), but it seems that Apple has a ways to go before displacing entourage for anything beyond basic needs for these apps.

Thoughts? Convince me to use mail/ab?

why do you need to be convinced to use it? if you're more familiar with entourage and it works better for you...go for it!

it's all about personal preference. i have entourage, but i never used all the features to make it worth it, so i use mail/address book. it works for me. however, if you need something more robust than mail/address book, then use entourage.

i guess i don't understand your reasoning. sounds to me like you have a perfectly good program and yet somehow you want the apple programs to have functions that they simply don't have...just because they're apple. i don't get it.

My entourage kept crashing all the time, and the rule-handling just sucked, so I threw it out and started using Mail/Address Book. Perfectly satisfied.

Well, yeah. 'Cuz they're not microsoft and they integrate with isync and the ipod, whereas entourage does not.

Why was everyone complaining about Safari not having features of other browsers, such as auto-fill on IE? Because they wanted the apple product to be as good as, or better, than the alternatives. No different here.

you can use entourage with the ipod...you're right about the isync part, but putting your contacts/calendar on the ipod from entourage can be done easily.

as far as safari is concerned, i think that there is a big difference between it and mail/address book. mail/address book is specifically for the basics. the home user with a couple of email accounts that doesn't need a full-featured program to do all of the fancy-dancy things that entourage does. mail/address book is just not geared toward a businessperson or someone who needs such a robust program.

safari, on the other hand, is supposed to be a full-featured browser. all the complaining...well...it's still a beta, remember that.

entourage is slow, buggy and unreliable. I have the problem that the send button is greyed out on new emails for no reason. iCal, Mail and Add Bk are so much better - they just feel a lot more streamlined. Attempting to get my emails from Outlook to entourage was enough to put me off it the first time i used it anyway!! I only use entourage for email (mainly because it took me so friggin' long to set it up my email accounts and rules that i don't want to have to go through the whole palava again), but iCal and address book all the way for calendar and managing contacts! The entourage calendar thing is pretty poor.

I'm suprised that M$ even bothered doing anything other than the email side of things, just because standard mac apps can do it so much better! They didn't produce publisher for mac! note: I AM IN NO WAY SAYING I WOULD LIKE TO SEE PUBLISHER ON A MAC - IT IS THE SPAWN OF SATAN
