I can't seem to get Mail to work with my Bellsouth ISP account. Would appreciate any advice...

The incoming & send server is mail.bellsouth.net and I've properly input my user id, e-mail address, password and specified POP mail. Mail accepts & validates the incoming server info; however, it says the stmp is invalid for the send server info.

I'm pretty sure I'm doing this right - I use the same info for Entourage and Entourage is able to send/receive mail. For some reason, though, Mail won't accept this same data.

I'd really like to give Mail a try to take advantage of the linkages into the rest of Tiger, Safari, etc.; however, I simply can't send with Mail...

I'm probably missing something very basic; however, I've tried repeatedly and can't get Mail to "send" e-mail from my Bellsouth account... Any advice?

Thanks,
Frank

First of all - when/if you have a signature put the: iMac G5 1.8 GHz (rev A) running 10.4.3 in your signature - I like it when its down there :D
As for your problem, you have the right ports right? - Gmail's is (but it configured it automatically) 995 I think for receiving and 465 for sending. As for your ISP, check with them - if they have a website, that would be great. Googling it is another alternative, though here you can get an answer soon. Make sure that that SMTP is your default Simple Mail Transfer Protocal (SMTP). Other than that, that's all the advice I can give w/o more info about the ISP.

Do they have SSL authentication on their server or something eles? Not sure? I'd either google it or contact the ISP and find out. GMail uses SSL, some use others (I think it is TCL???) or different types of encryption. Check with them or google it.

Thank you!

Found the right ports from my ISPs website (along with Google's).

Mail in Tiger seems more flexible than Panther. I always used Entourage because I didn't like Panther's Mail; however, I think I like Tiger's... Going to give it a try for a bit.

Thank you for your help,
Frank
