Mail.app does not update unread badge count (unless app is restarted)

Hi all,

I have a ProtonMail account and use the Proton's Bridge.app in order to configure Mail.app with IMAP settings. MacBook Pro 2018 running Mac OS Big Sur 11.6

Mail.app does not update the dock icon badge count (red circle) unless I quit the Mail.app and restart it. For instance: I receive 3 e-mails, read them but the badge still displays 3. The badge only disappears if I quit and restart Mail.app

Is this a Mail.app issue or is it an issue with Proton's Bridge.app? Is Mail.app supposed to update the unread message badge as soon as an e-mail is read or are there some IMAP "things" to do between Mail.app and Proton's Bridge.app prior to updating the badge?

I had the problem on Catalina as well, so it's not macOS-related.

No need for restart. Just flag and unflag this message and red badge disappears.
