I use the mail app on my iPad. I resently reset passwords on some of my email accounts. Usually, the mail app would ask for the new passwords but this time it didn't and I was still getting new emails from those accounts. Why didn't ask for the new passwords to those email accounts? Has there been a new update to the mail app?

is it possible that your iOS device's iCloud's Keychain is switched on, and these new passwords were entered on a mac before?

No, I don't use iCloud and I don't have a Mac. I only use an iPad.

I don't understand why I was still getting new emails when the accounts still had old passwords.

Any other possible reason will be most welcome.

since the Mail app on iOS will always, without fail, need to ask for a new password that has been changed, the likeliest possibility is that in fact the password change you thought made was not actually successful and that the old password is still actually the password (or, even that your old password is in fact the same as the new password).

if you think that the above is not correct, then of course what you should do is to again change your password on the mail account (if possible, on a different device) and then try yr iOS Mail on yr iPad and see if it requires entry of a new password. if it does require a new password, great. but then change it yet again, this time from yr iPad. and then see if Mail requires the new password.

Well as soon as I realised it wasn't asking for my new passwords to the accounts, I deleted them off iOS mail and re-added them with the new passwords. I did have iOS mail open when I changed the passwords. Could iOS mail auto update the passwords? or maybe if it was already open during the new password change, iOS mail simply didn't register the change..maybe? Or could it be that I'm still using an old iPad with an old iOS firmware?
