mail.app - "preview marked as read" still an issue?

In 10.11 will Apple finally give an option in Mail to allow a preview without marking the mail as read?

This has been a complaint for years, particularly with anyone who uses any business email clients. It's not practical to have mail automatically mark as read because you deleted the message above it or scrolled with your arrows.

All I want is an option to "Mark email as read when previewed" so that I can uncheck the action.

Has Apple finally solved this insane annoyance? If so, I'll stick with Mail until I get 10.11. If not, I need another client.

As I aware, Microsoft outlook for Mac doesn't even provide preview feature.
And I don't know how this feature could be used in mail app.

I think all email clients outside of phones show a preview of the email in the bottom pane. Native Mail.app does, Lotus Notes always has, Outlook from the little I used it does.

And I don't know how this feature could be used in mail app.

Most people who have worked in business and used email on a laptop/desktop heavily, don't want to have to an email marked as read just because we used the arrow keys to scroll through the inbox OR because we read the first sentence and moved on. Only when we actually open it, do we want it to be marked as read. Since PC's have an "Insert" button, you can usually toggle between Read and UnRead with it. But, in many email clients you can set it with either a "time" to mark it as read or just flat out tell the app not to mark it as read until it's actually opened.

(Of course, I still can't get use to "home" and "end" keys working different on a Mac vs Windows - and I've been using a Mac for 6 years.)

You’ll probably need another email client then. I can’t remember that Mail has ever done this. There used to be a plugin that could help you out, but it’s broken since Yosemite.

I found the plugin. Real shame, since I like the simplicity of mail.app! Suggestions on mail apps that would have (I know this is gross to say) a feeling like Lotus Notes clients? Twelve years of using it at work and I sort of miss the "2nd to nature" of it.

Well, for arrow key "mark as read", I see it. However, according to my understanding, as long as you enter a "preview" of mail, at the right most part, this mail is "almost" open and you can see everything inside. If you mean "I must open a separate window, and this mail shall be marked as 'read' as long as I only do so", then this might be a little bit tricky.

By the way, all what I say is what I aware. And I think El Capitan would not change it.

El Capitan does not change the behavior from all previous versions of Mail. If you click on an email and it shows the email, it is instantly marked as read. There are only 2 ways to avoid this:

1) Adjust your behavior. Turn off the email view panel so only a list of emails shows up. You'll have to double click an email to open it. I hate this.
2) Pay $30 for MailActOn. (Then pay $15 every other year for minor upgrades). There are a lot of features in the plugin, but the plugin breaks with virtually every OS update and you have to wait for the dev to update it. Most people probably only want the Mark As Read delay feature though. I hate this.
