Hey there,

I just upgraded my trusty MBP Late08 to El Capitan (love the background as I was there just 2 weeks ago :) )

I did a clean install.

After I set up all my accounts in Mail, I tried to send an email. Then something funny happened. Mail opens an error window. Then another. Then another. (repeat...)

I attached a screenshot. Removing all Mail accounts did not help, as the mail seems to be stuck in Mail's local outbox.

Anyone's got an idea for a workaround solution? (Reboot did not solve it).

Apparently I'm alone in this so far. Does anybody know, how to delete a mail from the outbox without opening mail? Or how to reinstall mail? It is just useless right now.

I cannot read your attachment but that error message looks the same as I have been getting today with Apple Mail and Gmail accounts. I've had to delete and add my gmail accounts for them to work today. They worked fine last night but issues today.

Hi,

thanks for the reply. It states something like "The Mail could not be sent and will remain in the outbox until it can be sent". Then it asks me to select a standard outgoing server - which does not exist as there is no account to choose from. When I add an account, the windows still opens and I cannot select the account as the standard outgoing server. I guess I will just revert to an earlier backup and hope that mail will behave better in the future. Never had issues with it before though...

That is what my error message was saying. I deleted the account in apple mail and then added it back to fix that problem.

Thanks again. Sadly, deleting and adding the account again did not help.

I found a solution though. I deleted the "v3" folder in ~/Library/Mail

Then I made sure to choose a standard outgoing account for each mailbox. Now it works fine.

Thanks again for the ideas.
