I hope I’m in the fight forum , but for years I let my email get out of hand , I’m now using the Mac mail spp and trying to figure out flagging.
If I flag an email , it still seems there’s an extra step of moving it to a folder . So if I flag my work emails with a red flag and my hobby emails with a blue flag , it seems now I’m flagging them and moving them, not to mention when the email has been read and complete, now you have another step of unflagging it.. am I correct with all this or am I doing this all wrong , do I maybe need to do something with filter along with flagging ? It’s so confusing . Thank you

Flagging does not move or otherwise alter an email. It simply sets a flag or marker. The Mail app has a smart filter that appears in the MAILBOX LIST when you have flagged emails. This shows you all the emails that you have flagged. Adding a flag to an email will cause that email to show up in the FLAGGED mailbox, but it DOES NOT move the email. Removing the flag will cause the email to disappear from the FLAGGED mailbox, but does not alter the email in any other way. BTW, deleting an email from the FLAGGED mailbox WILL delete the actual email, regardless of where it is stored within the Mail app. So, I would suggest that when you are finished with the flagged email that you simply clear the flag, and then act on the actual email in the location where it lives.

Filters will allow you to move, copy, delete, forward or any of a number of other actions. Depending on the action(s) you select, that email could be moved, copied, deleted, etc.
