Mail-Background Activity

I noticed yesterday that my battery drained very fast. Took a look at my Battery Settings and the number one culprit was Mail, 37% attributed to mail and 11h 22m of background activity. I confirmed all my e-mail accounts are set to "manual" and background refresh is "off".

Anybody experience this? Remedies?
