Hi,

I can leave Messages either open or closed and when I iMessage my Mac from my iPhone, banners pop up and then disappear just fine on my Mac.

However, when I email my iCloud email from my Gmail -- open or closed -- I receive no notification (aside from the unread message icon in my dock and default sound of incoming mail).

Has anyone gotten mail banner notifications working successfully or has had similar problems?

I can confirm a similar problem on my end. Facetime, calendar, reminders, (spotty) twitter, all work, but email notifications don't appear.

Using iCloud account (@me.com address)

Working fine here (though, not iCloud email). You sure they are on in System Preferences?

Mail Notifications are not working at all for me (except for badge icon) on GM Mountain Lion. I upgraded though, did not do a clean install. They are set correctly in System Preferences and DND is not turned on.

I've been doing some checking.

Mail notifications work if Apple Mail is already open. I'm wondering if you don't receive mail notifications is Apple Mail is not already open?

Maybe this is by design as not every provider grants push email. While you could get notifications outside of a mail client with push email, you wouldn't for say pop or hotmail.

Can anyone confirm if in previous developer previews, you received mail notifications even if Apple Mail was not open?

Also, what is DND?

You don't get notifications if Mail isn't open, but the OP stated that it was.

Well how stupid is that. All this push for iCloud and notifications and we don't have push email support for notifications.

Absurd when you consider iOS has been doing it for years.

I also don't have any banners or something else for Mail in the Notification Center.

This make absolutely no sense :(

It's not the biggest of deals to me because I always have my iPhone on my desk when I'm on my Mac. So any notification I receive to my email already pops up on my iPhone and I know to open up the Mail app on OS X. I just thought it was really weird that I didn't get actual notifications on my desktop.

It was a stupid approach. They simply should have had another option for people with push email accounts. Hell the iPhone's been doing it for years.

So my banner alerts work,.. I'd been emailing myself from same email account, and they didn't work.

D'oh!

I fixed it

It was working on my girlfriends phone but not mine. Here is how I fixed it.

I went to settings > notifications and I went to mail. I turned it off in the notification center. I put it as banner for alert style. The bottom three are supposed to be on.

Then, power down your iPhone. Turn it back on and you should be good.
