When I start Mail (OS 10.4.4) I get the following message: "Mail cannot update your mailboxes because your home directory is full. You must free up space in your home folder before using Mail. Delete unneeded documents or move documents to another volume."

Question: Can anyone out there be more specific or are there other tricks?! I've deleted a lot already, but Mail keeps telling the same story!

I live in the only country in this world that does not exist: the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus - and there are only two Mac users here. How's that for a minority, huh?

1: Trash: I think so but cannot check this: Mail doesn't open.
2: HD Free space: about 22 Gig.
I meant the regular Trash in Finder, but since you have more than enough space left on your HD this is not an issue... :)

Time to try the usual mumbo jumbo™:
- Have you repaired permissions and run the periodicals? I recommend MainMenu for these and other maintenance tasks.
- If you log into another user account on you Mac (make one if necessary), does the problem persist? This is good to know before we start deleting mail preferences (;)).

---> Even if I "repair" the permissions ten times, the same list of 'repaired permissions' will show.
---> I tried 'Main Menu', but nothing has changed.
---> I'll make another user account although right now I feel I'll forget "Mail" and go back to good old reliable Entourage!

If it's a lot of messages saying "We are using special permissions for..." (mainly for widgets) and just that (not saying any permissions was actually changed) then it's just informational warnings for you. Nothing to worry about. Not a problem. :)

If it's a corrupt preference file (like I suspect) then that could happen to Entourage, too... no need to use that dinosaur... if you relly want a Mail alternative, check out Thunderbird. 1.5 was just released... :)
