I dont know why but whenever i send a message it is automatically CCing myself. yes i know there are preferences in the mail settings of the iphone for that, but I have it turned off... still does it. Also, I am NOT syncing my mail messages, it is simply collecting them as they come in. it is a gmail account.
thanks for any help!
Andreas

i am assuming that you are using gmail because a lot of other people are having this problem. it has to do with the way gmail has conversations set up or something like that, hopefully they fix it

I have the same issue (gmail of course). I'm pretty sure a creative filter in gmail would prevent this from happening, but I don't know how it would be set up.

Given the close Apple/Google relationship, I'm positive they can think of something (like RIM/Google did with gmail integration on BB's).

yeah, I'm also having that problem with that, sometime it doesn't cc me and
sometimes is does do it, some random stuff, it doesn't happen with my mac but with the iPhone is does cc me somehow.

Probably should be in the Troubleshooting forum.

I've noticed that Mail settings can be somewhat buggy. Silly question, but have you tried power-cycling the phone (holding down sleep and then sliding the slider to turn it off)? When my settings become stuck, I've found that a power-cycle generally fixes the problem.

I have, no avail. i agree, it is some weird setting bug, but we should be able to figure it out

To everyone that's having problems with gmail sending itself messages, it's because of how it's set up to have conversations. To stop it from doing that, go to gmail on the internet and set up a filter that basically deletes any messages that come in from your own address. That way whenever you send an email on iphone, the message that comes back to you will be put in the trash on gmails servers, and won't get to your phone. It works!!

What if i don't want to put my sent mail in the deleted folder on the gmail server. I prefer to keep all my sent items, is there another place that we can move these sent items besides the trash that will prevent them from hitting the inbox?

I'm shocked that they didn't do something before the launch as close as they are. Gmail works very poorly right now, I hope a fix comes soon

I agree - this solution might work, but it's less than ideal. I'd just as soon Apple provide The Rule for Gmail that you have to use with Mail.app to keep from seeing your sent mail in your inbox...or to have someone come up with something better than delete mails you send.

What effect does this fix have on the "conversation" look of Gmail? Will I no longer see my replies to people in the conversation?
