For those of you Old People who, like me, continue to cling to Mail's Classic View you'd best starting looking for an alternative to Apple's Mail app. In response to a bug report (which may be fixed in Mojave) the person who responded to me noted that I had been using Classic View in the screenshots I submitted and said that Classic View was going to be removed "soon". Just a heads up.

While this news is slightly bumming, it's not the end of the world.

Definitely not EOW, but one more option removed that people might actually like and use. I posted because this may be the change that pushes me to a third-party mail option, and there might be others out there like me (Old Guy) who would feel the same.

I hear you. I recently went back to Apple Mail from Airmail and totally forgot the simplicity it has.

Now with this, well, I just reinstalled Airmail.

I've always liked it. It's simple, yet packs some great features.

I wish someone would just make a super simple, basic eMail client. Something that sends and receives with no crazy bells and whistles.

Spark is amazing. I found Airmail to be a little extra with the settings and Spark has that nice balance of features and simplicity that I really love. Plus, it's free. https://sparkmailapp.com. Neither of these apps have a "classic" type of view though.

But if @jasnw is looking for that classic view, I recommend Postbox https://www.postbox-inc.com

I approve of Spark, too. Haven't had any issues with it. But also have debated if Apple Mail is worth going back to.

did you try thunderbird or sylpheed?

I tried tbird many years ago when I was looking for a eudora replacement that would run on Linux, and then on OS X. Could never quite like it enough to make it go. I don't think sylpheed would work for me - not a GTK fan. I'm still trudging along with Mail on my El Cap machine hoping things become clearer by the time that beast goes DITW on me.

sweetmail might the e-mail client for you @jasnw as it is sparse but has you covered in the e-mail department. Has been developed for years is what I gather from MU - where I first learned of it. Used it a few times. I went back to Mail after a reinstall of macOS Mojave and now sweetmail isn't available in my country to download at the moment(I can re-download from MAS but the App Store Links are all dead for Denmark). I hope it's available in the US of A :)

Click the macOS tab and it's the first on the list.

MacUpdate sweetmail product page:

Edit: oh yeah, and a fellow Dane developed this, MailMate(30 day trial): https://freron.com/
I forgot about this as I was browsing MacUpdate - I've had my eye on that e-mail program for a while but my needs are currently met by using Mail app.
