Mail: Connections to the server “xxx” on the default ports timed out.

For the past few months I'm constantly getting the server time out message on all three mail servers that I have set up: iCloud, Gmail and my web host.

But, when I run Connection Doctor it shows immediate successful connections to all three servers; yet the connection warning remains. Mail functions normally with no indication of any actual problem sending or receiving mail:

How can I stop the annoying alerts?
