mail drop...non-icloud account...

anyone using this? according to apple, i can turn it on for my third-party email account in advanced preferences...only the option does not show up.

i tried to send a 2GB file thru Mail today (and all hell broke loose). does anyone use mail drop with a non-icloud account?

ah, google. seems this was an option at some point with yosemite, but is no longer available for non-icloud accounts (if i'm wrong, let me know).

I have it for all my non-iCloud accounts...

In Mail, go to Preferences then select the Accounts icon.
Select your account from the sidebar then select the tab Advanced on the right.
From there you can check "Send large attachments with Mail Drop"

Airmail has an option to use Dropbox, OneDrive and many others to upload large attachments. I never used that option, but the Beta version is available for free on their website and you could try it.

I am using just the Beta since about 6 months and it seems to work with nearly every email account without any problems.

If you buy it in the App Store you also have iCloud sync.

They announced an app for the iPhone many months ago but it's still not released yet. I have the Beta of that app but I find it a little confusing and don't know if I'll keep it. But I like the Mac version very much.

that's the first thing i tried; i don't have that option (10.11.3 beta issue? or something to do with my email host?). anyway, i already have hightail, so will continue to use that...

infinit is great...if the recipient has it also; that's a requirement. or does a paid account let you send to people without an account?? i use hightail for my business. i can't tell the recipients they need to download an app...

Have you tried another account to see if it is an account-specific problem? Mail Drop simply adds a link for non-Apple users receiving the mail so it is "supposed" to work for all accounts…

Anyway even though I activate Mail Drop by default for larger files I tend to use wetransfer. It is very reliable, pretty speedy, nice web interface and has a bunch of corporate users.

thanks. it must be my hosting company; i tried setting up my (basically unused) gmail account, and the option DID show up. but am trying to keep things simple, so will stick with hightail.

EDIT: on second thought, perhaps it's because that account is a POP account? gmail, as an IMAP account, showed the mail drop option. so probably nothing to do with my mail host...
