I'm trying to switch to Apple Mail, and some features are completely against my logic. One of them is flagging emails.

What's the point of the flag option in Apple Mail app? I usually flag the messages when someone is not replying for a few days and I want to remove it from Inbox. I never keep anyting in Inbox more than few days. Then I move the message to a desired folder and it doesn't appear in the Flagged folder anymore.

If I have to keep the message in the Inbox to appear in the Flagged folder, then what's the point of flagging? I'd see it anyway in Inbox...

I really don't understand how was this imagined by Apple. Maybe their engineers keep all mesages in Inbox forever? My mom does that, because she don't know how to move messages in the folders, but whoever is a bit more advanced in using emails will organize

I'm not sure why flagged messages from other folders don't appear in the flagged "folder" given that it doesn't work like that in other clients and/or email accounts.

That said, different people use inbox and email differently to one degree or another. Many do keep things in the inbox so for them flagging likely works without much of an issue in that respect.

If flagged messages would appear from no matter what folder, it would work for everyone.

I'm wondering, what email client Tim Cook and others are using if how they use it. I found threads from 2015. people complaining about this issue and 5 years later it's not fixed yet, so it might be that Apple think this is how it should be done.

Hmm, this seems to be fixed now? Can someone else check if flagged messages that are NOT in the inbox appears in the Flagged folder on iOS14? I didn't have any old flagged messages, but whatever old message I flag now, it automatically appears in my Flagged folder.

It's strange this is fixed just now, a week after I complained here and this bug exists forever, AFAIK. Coincidence?

I don't see that working for me, still.

Using my Gmail in the Mail app, I tried flagging a mail in both the inbox and one in my sent e-mails. The one from the inbox shows up correctly in the flagged folder, but the one from sent does not.

That's correct - flagged messages in Sent folders doesn't appears in Flagged folder to me either. However, I use custom folders I made and whatever I flag there, it appears in the Flagged folder as well. I tried this earlier and it didn't worked, I'm almost 100% certain, because this is how I use Mail forever.

Oh, and I use @me.com (iCloud) email. Not sure if this makes any difference.

Strange. Good thing it seems to work now, though.

I just tried creating a folder on an IMAP e-mail I use as well, and flagging messages in that folder correctly places the flagged message in the flagged folder as well.

It may be service dependant then, with which folders support listing in the global flagged folder.
