Hello dearest Apple folks,

Recently I was cleaning up my MacBook Air (2012) and I found out that my mail folder is actually larger than 13 gigabyte. Since my Air only has a mere 64 gb of harddisk space, I was wondering.. Is there any way I can reduce this size?

Think of it like the way the Mail app in iOs works. I'd like it that way: the newest messages are stored on the device, the older ones are stored on the server and you can still search them.

Thanks in advance!

If you just use your IMAP account in Mail and not POP then your attachments and what not (which is the bulk of the 13 gb) will be kept on the server and not on your computer.

Are you using GMail by any chance?

If you are go to gmail.com and in settings tell gmail not to show the All Mail folder in IMAP. That will cut your disk space usage in half.

I do use it as Imap. But it still was 12 gb.

The trick with the "all mail" did cut it down to a whopping 4,6 gb. Lovely, thanks Weaselboy!
