hey guys, I've used mail with a gmail account before and it worked beautifully. I disabled the pop though a few months back and am now ready to use it again. I followed the directions on gmail's site with gmail's options as well as mail's prefs. However, mail seems to do whatever it wants. It's connected, there are no warning signs, and sends outgoing mail. But it doesn't receive any mail. I'd receive email in my gmail account and mail would just sit there with no emails in the inbox.

I can confirm that it works with the new 10.4.4 update.

Really last time I set one up I had to do it about 6 times. Just double triple check all the settings. Go over it real sloooow. Sometimes it takes a long time before google confirms the set up proceedure and you might think nothing is happening.

Don't forget to save all your settings in google after you set them.

I've done the 10.4.4 update, and have tried to set up both gmail and mail.app 5 times now. I followed directions very closely, saved, double saved, and restarted. no joy.

I don't understand, if it can send mail, why the hell doesn't it receive email? especially when gmail is getting them.

I can confirm that mail.app and GMail work fine together so don't give up just yet.

Only thing I can think of is to make sure all your port settings are correct and that you have the checkbox for "include this account when checking for new mail" selected (under mail preferences/advanced).

Yeah, I've used it before. I shut pop off on gmail, and wanted to start it up again and it's giving me hell. I've almost meticulously typed and checked and saved everything. Including the "include this account" what else could there be? I want to use mail.app so badly it's hurting.

maybe your gmail settings are screwed up. I know in gmail preferences there is an option to turn pop access on and off. Maybe somehow it got turned off.

each time I try to configure mail.app I'd do it again to gmail, so that they would both be configured together. I have had pop access from gmail to mail.app before, I'm simply just trying to get it back again. Which is turning out to be not so simple...

missing messages

I've had multiple times when mail will miss a message or two from gmail. It seems like it happens when I receive mail while my computer is asleep but mail is running...
