I have a problem with the handoff feature on my iPhone 6s (iOS10): handoff between the Mac and the iPhone does not work when composing emails. For example, if I start writing an email on my Mac and try to handoff to the iPhone, the iPhone shows the following message: "Failed to continue activity. Handoff could not be completed."

The handoff feature works fine when simply viewing emails. It also works fine with Safari.

I'm pretty sure that the problem is with the iPhone, as the handoff feature works just fine between my Mac and my iPad, but not between the iPhone and the iPad. Basically, it fails only with the iPhone.

This Reddit solved my handoff issues this evening. My issue was the universal clipboard not working, but the solution should work for any handoff issues. https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/51afxn/universal_clipboard_not_working/

Thanks for the suggestion. I do see the hotspot shortcut in the wifi settings, but still the problem persists. Again, I can use handoff between my iPhone and other devices, except for certain features like starting to write an email on one device and then continuing on another.

I saw the shortcut, too, but it still wasn't working. Would suggest you give it a try. It may be the connection is corrupted in some fashion and re-initiating it may clear it.

Signing out from the iCloud account on the iPhone and back in seems to have fixed the problem.

In my experience, signing out of iCloud, rebooting, signing back in, typically fixes handoff and continuity problems I've had over the last year or so. I'm dealing with the problem again right now so doing the old sign out/sign in as we speak. ::crosses fingers::

Sadly, while the painful process of signing out of iCloud gave me a brief glimmer of hope, my Mac is back to basically not working for Handoff. Same with AirDrop. It works pretty well for Watch unlock and Continuity stuff such as answering the phone on the Mac. But Apple just can’t get this stuff right.
