Mail in Lion doesn't mark as read after reading on iOS device

Since I migrated to iCloud, I have had quite a few problems with iCloud in my Mail app in Lion. It annoyed me so much that I took my mail off my computer for a bit, but put it back about half an hour ago and have two main problems.

1 - There is a constant spinning wheel next to the iCloud inbox whereas my other email address (personal work address) doesn't do this and simply just gets the mail when it arrives.

2 - When I get a new email to my @me address, if I read it on my iPad or iPhone, it marks it as read on the other device, but it still shows as unread on my mail app.

Does anyone know what these problems may be? The only thing I can think off is the spinning wheel is because it is still trying to bring my emails down from the cloud onto my computer and it isn't marking as read because it is busy doing the former. That's all I can think off. Any help with this would be great.

EDIT - Also forgot to say, I can still send and receive mail from my Mail app in Lion.

Apparently this problem has existed with MobileMe for some time, so will probably persist. See: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1239754/

It seems nobody at Apple is intending on using iCloud, or they all like manually syncing their phones and computers.

I never had that problem with MobileMe, it's only since I migrated to iCloud. The spinning wheel by the iCloud inbox won't stop either. Also, this isn't happening on my Dad's computer after his migration.

Private Exchange server is the future!

I don't quite get why people want the 'Cloud'

I want my own iphone, syncing wirelessly to my own servers, that I back up myself.

If Apple had made an option to have a 'Cloud' NAS device that connects to my home router and my iphone syncs to from anywhere... Now that is a solution!!!!

(Pogoplug/Buffalo Cloudstor acquisition anyone?? and whilst they are at it, add an email server into it, so we have direct control over our own email servers. Home internet connectivity is at such a level that this is perfectly feasible, we get all the data on our own cheap low power hardware and it means no costly data centers. I thought this was the age of distributed computing, not processing data i centralized places. It seems the cloud is a new marketing name for the mainframe.)

Just to update you on the situation, the wheel has stopped and all is working fine now
