Suddenly, there is absolutely crazy consumption of my mobile data through email (as I can see in the settings and mobile data report). Normally I am connected to the wifi most of the time and spend about 2-3 GB of mobile data per month. In the last few days it was suddenly about 10 GB in 5 days while I almost did not go out and used wifi all tge time (!!) I have changed nothing in my settings whatsoever.

I switched off mobile data and reset the report in the settings. Now I went out for 10 min, switched the mobile data on. Before I left it showed 25 MB of consumed mobile data. After returning home it showed 1,4 GB of mobile data spent out of which 1.3GB by Mail. I have not received any mail during that time.

WTF is going on ??? And how to avoid it? I have also set Low data mode all the time.

Push/Fetch behavior can have a big impact. (Settings > Mail > Accounts > Fetch New Data). If you had been using Fetch and switched (either intentionally or not) to Push, data usage would likely have gone up. Each mail account has its own settings for that. Another would be if you signed into a mail account while using mobile - large initial data usage.

Unfortunately this is not the case - I went through my 4 mail accounts, one was set to fetch, now all are set to manual and this morning I went out and in 5 min Mail consumed 1 GB of mobile data (while no email was received). Becomes a bit desperate and does not have any sense ? Still any idea what could be causing this? (while I have not changed any settings and this was not happening for months and years before).

Yesterday morning Mail, and iMessage were having issues
my mail app was constantly pushing/fetching on down apple servers.

Apple Says App Store, iMessage, iCloud Drive, and Other iCloud Services Are Experiencing Issues [Update: Fixed] - MacRumors

There was another post this week about the same issue.

Also, there have been posts about "Documents & Sync" using crazy amounts of cell data. A reset has helped some of those, I believe.
