My iPad at work will not send/receive email over their wifi network using the built in Mail app and my me.com account. However, a co-working with a Hotmail account is having not issues using his Mail app. What gives? Is there a way around this?

I would have initially said a firewall issue but if your co-worker can send fine, that wouldn't seem to be the case at second glance. Hotmail and iCloud both use port 587 for the outgoing email settings, so if 587 was blocked, neither you nor your co-worker would be able to send. Your iPad, is it running iOS 5.0, 5.01, 5.1, 5.1.1? Compare with your colleague the version of iOS and update if necessary, or maybe contact whomever administers the network at your workplace.

Will it connect to the Internet at all? You may have to give your it guy your Mac address.

Yes, the iPad connects to the wifi just fine. It's just that the Mail app will not send/receive. My IT department will NOT adjust their settings, that's why I'm looking for a work around.

My co-worker has his iPad setup with a Hotmail account, his Mail app works just fine. I tried to determine the port settings for his, but there is no advanced settings, looks like its all preset.

If Apple would allow the iPad to access the iCloud website it'd work, but that just shoots you to the app.

What settings can I try? Can I set it up like Hotmail somehow?

On 3G yes. On wifi no. Even when I'm not on the public wifi it doesn't work.

Create a free Hotmail account and put it on your iPad to see if it works. Or have your co-worker try his iCloud account. Without more information it sounds like your company is blocking iCloud e-mail.
