In Yosemite, when you archive a message in mail, an "Archive" mailbox shows up in the left hand pane..

This, to me, confirms this is locally done, not server side, since it would always appear otherwise.

However, once shown, u cannot get rid of it...

I tried removing the "archive.mbox" in the Mail folder, but it re-create is again when launching the app...

How can prevent this ? or must i not archive mail ever ? I don't really mind it, its just there is no messages in there... and would prefer to get rid of it.

Assuming you're using Gmail, access the account via a web browser and go into the settings, where under the labels section you should be able to unmark the archived label from showing in IMAP.

The reason it is coming back all the time is because when Mail.app syncs with your account, Gmail tells it to put it back there, because your settings say you want to see it.

I have 2 email accounts.. Both I access via IMAP.... Gmail and own personal email..

Both account I have gone through and while there were IMap/Archive in gmail label, "Show in IMAP" was unchecked...

Personal email account did of any such thing... also i did hide "Archive" mailbox, but that only disappeared from web mail view only.

Just to add i only ever saw the Archive mailbox in OS X when i did clean install of Yosemite, although i have never archived mail in Mavericks so i can't really vouch for that if it worked the same way.

Update

Seems the only way to solve this as i found out with by deleting all mail related files and starting over re-recreating account... rebuilding didn't work.

not sure is its just a recreation of gmail or other account would also solve the issue, but Apple support believed just to start over would be best..

In any case, its inconvenient way, but it works.
