Mail not marking as read across devices

Ive heard mixed reports about iCloud's ability to "sync" mail across devices. For instance for me specifically, if I read a message on my iPad, my iPhone does not automatically update the badge on the mail app to show that the message has been read.

Same if I read it on my Mac.

All of my settings are on push for my account and all settings are identical across devices.

For my friend, the functionality is there. I am completely puzzled as to why this is. Can anyone shed any light on this?

What Mail service are you using, the Apple iCloud mail service ( ending in @me.com ) ? or are you using a different PoP Mail service like HotMail that does not support IMAP?

As I said, iCloud mail sync. So yes @me.com.

Mail in Mac OS X updates the unread message count fine for me. As for iOS devices I sometimes need to make Mail the active application for it to update the unread message count, but iCloud mail syncs fine when the mail is active in iOS.

Yeah it doesn't at all for me. Just before I posted here I read 2 messages in my iCloud email on my iPad, I just pulled my phone out and looked at mail icon and there is a 2 there.

When I open the app, I watch it checking for new messages and then it is updated and shows them as read, but that only happens if I open mail and look.

It's like something about it on on fetch, but it's not like that in any settings at all.

So how come I have seen on several of my friends devices the complete opposite, and when I had MobileMe email before I migrated to iCloud it worked the other way, like it should.

It makes no sense that it works one way for some people and a different way for others if it's the same service and is setup the same way.

Just asking the tough question because I've seen it work the other way on multiple occasions. My one friend is here with me right now and we are testing it. His works. Mine doesn't.

It's the only thing keeping me from using iCloud email. iMessages works that way. So should email.

Mike is absolutely right thats how Apple designed it to work

There must be 10,000's of posts about it spanning over the past few years, as more folk start using .me email the more posts there are

Thats how iCloud email works, in that it will not update the Read status across all devices, its ok on Mac to Mac but it will not update on iPhone, iPad, iPod

Thats it, that's how t is designed to work FACT!!! and the reason I don't use iCloud for my email
