I have been having a problem with my mail on my previous 6 on iOS 10 as well as my new iOS 11 in that I can’t seem to get my mail to automatically push the messages though. I have to open the mail app and that then reloads and downloads all of my current emails. When I look in the settings, the mail option is set to push. When I open the individual account settings, most of them are set to “fetch” and “push” isn’t an option for any of my emails except for iCloud and my Hotmail account. Any ideas?

If you are using a gmail account with the iOS mail app, this is a fact of life. Gmail can only be fetched from iOS mail app.

Ok, I have one gmail account and a yahoo account. That’s crazy that Apple doesn’t play with with such popular email services.

Did you ever think it's gmail that's not playing nicely with apple? Why is it always apple's fault when something doesn't work the way you want it to?

Yeah. Good point. It could very well be that way too. Doesn’t matter.

Umm, Google chose not to support push e-mail on iOS, for obvious reasons. Not an issue though - I have all notifications off on all e-mail accounts anyway and just get around to them whenever. As it should be with e-mail, it's not a real-time communications replacement, and sometimes I'll go all day without checking work or personal if I'm busy.

Apple maps. Remember that? Apple has a reputation of not playing nice with others and going full thermonuclear.

Also going on now with video formats, Intel's CPUs support hardware vp9 (a video codec that has no license fees) playback but Apple isn't supporting it. Apple instead wants to push HEVC/mpeg.

This has nothing to do with Apple not wanting Gmail to support push e-mail. Why are people so quick to blame Apple when others like Google and Microsoft are just as bad?

Mail is not pushing... Hmm... Do you have a good midwife to help you out? :D

All joking aside, I agree with the two key comments here. Google doesn't play well with Apple mail. We used to have google service for work and the only way I was getting email was by opening the app and manually fetching mail. I also agree that in your case, Outlook will solve the problem. Try it. You may like it.

Good luck.

I talked to someone who uses gmail and says that his mail comes though. Is this just me? Are other people with gmail or yahoo getting mail pushed or does it not work unless I open the mail app?

My gmail pushes. There is a work around, I set up a dedicated iCloud account that all my gmail forwards to and sends from. It shows as being sent from gmail. It is seamless and people you email don't know the difference.

I read this article, and set it up. Mine has worked perfectly for a couple years now using this method.

I just set up a fetch schedule. Auto checks every 30 minutes. I can wait 30 minutes for any emails I get. I don’t use email for my job.

What was the issue with Apple Maps in relation to not playing with others? That they had to go with their own solution because Google wasn't willing to play nice and provide navigation and other features that Google Maps (on other platforms) supported and that Apple and Apple's customers wanted have?

Option n 1: Have push from IOS Mail by setting it up as an Exchange Account. This only works if you have a paid Google account (5$ monthly)

Option n 2: Set the Apple Mail app to fetch every 15-30-60 minutes if you need to use that app. Pay attention: If you select "Automatically" your iPhone will Fetch new data in the background only when on power and WiFi

At the iPhone hacks section.

You're still not getting it. It doesnt matter what someone told you.
Gmail doesnt push emails on the iphone using the stock mail app.
Its a Gmail limitation since many many other email accounts push fine using the stock mail app.
There's posts with workarounds on how to deal with that in this thread. Read and educate yourself on the how and why instead of just pointing the finger at Apple or the phone.
