Mail Notification

I want to hide the dock, but then I can't see the Mail icon and how many messages I've received. I wish I could put an icon or something on the menu bar that would inform me. Is there any way to do this, or do you have any suggestions?

A quick type of "mail menu bar" into versiontracker revealed a couple of options, including this one . I haven't used any of them, so I can't comment, but that can be a starting point for you.

I believe there's a widget available that basically mirrors Mail's Dock icon and shows the number of unread messages.
