I just wanted to say that Mail performance and basic usability is unacceptable. We’re 9 days away from the keynote, so Apple has really outdone itself this time. Pathetic.

It's only beta 1. Not sure about some assumptions about 13.1 being what gets released after the keynote.

They certainly haven't fixed the issues affecting mail during the entire iOS 13 beta process. They've had significant Mail bugs since early June and some of those key issues still exist this close to GM. Chances are GM will be completed by Monday and for sure released next Tuesday to devs.

Nothing is changed from 13.0 in 8 betas in Mail to 13.1. I agree with OP its in horrendous shape. Still getting "This message has not been downloaded from the server error" and other basic usability issues with the app

The app is just in really poor shape 9 total betas in, no matter what number you put on it (13.1 vs 13.0); considering they called that "close enough" in 13.0 to release it next week. Really sloppy from Apple this year.

Yeah, but ... there are no more (non-Apple) beta testers for 13.0 and that has the same issues.

Well, the part about the same issues still being there in the latest iOS 13.0 beta wasn't mentioned as the OP directed this at 13.1 beta 1. (I don't think that 13.1 beta 1 is essentially more or less the equivalent of something like 13.0 beta 9.)

Oddly enough I installed 13.0 beta 8 fresh on both my iPhone and iPad after they both updated to 13.1 and broke a lot of features. Since the “fresh downgrade” Mail works flawlessly on my iPad just like it did on iOS 12. However on my phone it still has notification issues, no other issues then that.

Yeah, it's mainly Mail notification issues for me too (on 13.1). I'm also having irritating issues on Catalina. However, both iOS and Catalina don't have many issues imo, just some major ones :)

I'm more confident that they'll get fixed (as they're obvious problems!) than if I had a load of little issues instead.

Thanks for all the responses. In my view (and I reiterate, this is my view based on my use of every single beta build released since WWDC), a core system app simply cannot be this broken, it’s unacceptable from a company that’s been supporting this app since 2007. What confounds me, is that this is the Mail app - most users would simply expect this to work, period. End users don’t care about underlying changes, so that simply cannot be an excuse. Finally, iOS 13 hasn’t radically changed the Mail app to warrant such basic usage infractions. Please correct me if I’m fundamentally missing something here. I’m not even getting started on basic connectivity issues that have persisted since beta 1.

One word... beta

More words: New release today and from my early experiences, it seems much improved. 25+ emails and haven't seen any issues on notifications, badges or sorting. And yes, I am using an exchange server

Great, except 13.1 isn't going to be released next week as GM. It will be 13 and that's what is worrying people on here. That being said, it's very possible that whatever fix they implemented in this latest release also made into the nighty builds (assuming they have something like that) that are getting close to GM.

Mail is a complete dumpster fire on 13 and Catalina... what on earth are they changing under the hood that's messing up so much? I mean - its email for goodness sake.

I'm going to use Mail as my personal litmus test for iOS 13 and not upgrade from iOS 12 until that one is solid. I just moved over from that Gmail app to their built-in app and don't want to move back to something else just as I was starting to feel at home with it.

My main issues with mail 13.1 PB2 are:
-Why did they decide to move the „reply to mail“ button to the bottom?
-sometimes the compose window freezes in an odd position when you’re trying to move it around
-This is the WORST: When you have a thread of mails with different people and press cmd+r to reply to the original sender of either the first mail in the thread or just simply the currently highlighted mail, instead, ALL THE TIME it just wants to reply to yourself. WTF???
- Images in compose window sometimes dont get displayed properly or not at all.
- send mail arrow button is not pixel aligned to the add attachment icon :(

Seems better for me in 13.1 PB2 but still far from perfect. Largest annoyance is when I tap on a notification on my phone's lockscreen I expect to be taken directly to that email. Instead, I get brought to whatever email I had last open. Then I have to go back to my Inbox and find the new message and select that. Hope this gets fixed soon

This! I keep checking with every beta to see if this has been fixed. Its been ongoing now for some time and I have submitted it via that feedback app. It bothers me enough that I have moved to Outlook for the time being

That's definitely the risk you take when installing a beta. Apple has expressly stated that you should not install any beta on critical devices.

You gotta pay to play.

Yes, I understand that and I’m ok with the bugs. I submitted my feedback and moved on to outlook.

The question is- how will they fix this in time for next week??

Well, part of fixing the problem is identifying the problem and I’m, sure, since isn’t Apple’s first rodeo, they have a plan.

Also, not everyone is having issues with the email app. I have been using it extensively the past 2 to 3 weeks and have experienced zero issues. I have received signed and return several legal docs through the Email app and not had any glitches.

Sending pictures also has not been an issue.

I have have been using the stock app this way on both XR and iPP 11.

As it's been mentioned before, Apple has newer builds that what they release to the developers / public. I'm fairly certain there won't be any showstoppers when the GM is released.

They didn’t fix the problems since months. I don’t believe that much will change the next weeks. Outlook works a lot better then Apple Mail.

I disagree, at least on iOS 12. The times I’ve used outlook, when I open it, there is a delay in the showing of all my emails. With the built in mail client, when I open it, they’re all there. That delay in outlook bothers me.

Also, the ability to be typing an email in mail and then drag it down to look at something else in mail is a big advantage for me. I don’t know of a way in outlook to do that.
