My house!
I use my ISP's outgoing mail server to send e-Mail with my .mac account. Maybe that will work better?

From the Mail menu, choose Preferences.
Click Accounts.
Select your .Mac account from the list on the left.
Click the Server Settings button below your account information.
In the resulting dialog, Change the number in the "Server port" field from 25 to 587.
Click OK.
Close the preferences window.
Send yourself a new email message.

Thanks mate!
I don't normally have this problem... but occasionally when i travel and forgot to turn off my own ADSL modem (my ISP only allows one connection at a time), I have to use my brothers dial up ISP, and they block Port 25.

Normally I just access mail via web based services... but thanks for the tip!
