Apple App store gave us an Yosemite PB3 mail update a few days ago. Do you see this update ?

Not from me, sorry. I to do not get any notifications, (Gmail here as well) but as you said only when it's open. Have you filed a bug report using Yosemite Feedback icon ?

yes i send bug report.

The mail app has always needed to be open to receive email notifications. It was that way in Mavericks as well. I suggest you just configure a login item to start mail automatically and hide it.
i didn't know that. thank you.
