I was working on my iBook, and when I went to open Mail, all of a sudden the app would not open. The dock icon bouncs, and the window opens, but after a few seconds it quits, and I get the error message. I have repaired prefrences, and completly restarted the iBook. No help. I have attached the error report.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Have you installed any 3rd party plugins (ie. Mail Bundles)?

Have you just received a suspicious mail message, and have message preview enabled?

Can you just attach the error message inline (I don't open Microsoft docs from strangers, h*** I don't open docs from friends ;)).

I have no plugins installed, and no suspicios mail has come in that I have seen. and the error report was too long to post.

I had a similar problem last week and the culprit was the Hotmail httpnotifier. But if you've no plug-ins, it won't be that.

Can you try setting up another account and seeing whether Mail stays open in there? Should give you a clue whether its the app that's screwed up or something in your user profile.

I tried that in my guest account and it seems to work fine. so how do I fix my main account?

Any idea what would corrupt the pref file like that?
Nah.. pref files get corrupt from time to time, but relatively rarely. I don't think you can prevent this. MainMenu has options for verifying and repairing pref files, but I've not actually tried it, since I haven't had a corrupt pref file in quite a while... ;)
