What is your issue? I'm having no problems with it on my 2010 MBP and unsupported 2008 MacBook.

Please send me your solution! I'm trying to run Mac Mail on my MBA 2011 (10.11.1) and Retina iMac (10.11.2). Both hopelessly slow. May or may not download some mail if left on overnight. MBA worked fine under Mavericks.

Mail is borked for me after 10.11.2. My work Exchange account keeps going offline and eventually Mail crashes, twice now. I'm going to try deleting the account and re-adding it.

Update: That fixed it.

It is becoming apparent that the upgrade transition of accounts is not working for many users of Mac Mail. It is perhapes due to security updates included in the El Capitan upgrade but the old "delete account and recreate" continues to be a "fix all" for many account related issues in Mail.

I find it absolutely ridiculous that Apple is incapable of launching an OS X update with there own core applications not working from day one; Apple controls both the hardware & software environment so they have few if any excuses. What even more laughable is that the same applications on 10.10.5 worked flawlessly for me.

Right now I have little or no inclination to go through another batch of clean installs of 10.11, or upgrading any hardware in 2016 as a direct result. I need core applications like mail to work 100% guaranteed as a function of business. Apple needs to drop the hype & hubris and get their act to together, right now for many 10.11 is doing little more than making Windows 10 more attractive with each botched update...

A $1000 billion company. And they still can't fix their email app (OS X 10.11.2). Poor.

Thank you for clearly stating the situation. El Capitan Apple Mail has been a complete disgrace. New emails still will not show up unless I constantly quit the application. Flags that I have used in the past have changed colours and new flagging of emails will switch from my selection of orange to red. (What a frickin' waste of time)

One minute I will have the most recent emails in my inbox...and then shortly after emails from 6months ago are the most recent. There is a never ending "Downloading Messages 1779 of 4068" or similar...

Messages all through my inbox show as "This message has no content" when in fact there is content.

Emails that I attempt to move to trash are very slow to 'move'. Is it just me or is this perhaps the biggest email abomination ever? I'm using the latest OS on a late 2013 fully loaded Macbook Pro.

I cannot believe I have to screw around and find an email client that will at the very least download new emails effectively.

This I truly empathise with. One of the attractions of the Mac and OS X was not needing to deal with too many third party solutions, however it`s becoming virtually mandatory. The 12 month development cycle of OS X simply exasperates the situation, with one never knowing if applications both native & third party will work from revision to revision of the OS.

10.11 broke much of my basic workflow, killed Wi-Fi performance, nor has it been rectified, with updates fixing & breaking various aspects of the OS & Apple`s own applications. Since 10.10 OS X now seems very much dependant on what your hardware is, and what is installed, same as the Windows of old. For all the talk here Apple will only do what Apple wants, with the quality of OS X clearly not being a priority.

Personally I didn't care for the aesthetic of 10.10 or the significant reduction in readability, however as the OS worked without issue and did bring some tangible features, I was ok with it. 10.11 not so, with the OS suffering seemingly endless issue, nor I am willing to roll the dice on 10.12. My systems for 2016 will be migrating to Windows 10 (hardware & software) as frankly Microsoft`s OS in now proving to be far more stable versus OS X becoming a serious obstacle to getting things done.

As a direct result Apple have lost a long standing customer...

No problems with Mail under 10.11.1 on my two Mini. I have a dozen email accounts and I had to make sure the PW, outgoing/incoming servers and security settings were correct. 10.11 is more strict about such matters than prior OS.

Thx, however that`s not the issue in my case, after multiple clean installs it can only be related to Apple`s software, same hardware on 10.10.5 runs same applications flawlessly.

I didn't mention that most of my email accounts didn't work at all in the Mail app after updating to 10.11 from 10.95: incorrect server, PW, etc. I tried everything I could think of over several days and, as a last ditch effort, I went back to each provider and read the setup instructions for Apple Mail and changed the outgoing and incoming server names, and used the advanced setting options for ports and security and all was well again.

That was a few months back when 10.11 debuted. Oddly, the old settings worked fine under OS 10.8/10.9 (and still do when I restart under those OS). I had to do the same with the mail app on my iPhone under iOS9. I don't understand the tech behind the Mail spec change but I suspect it was for enhanced security. Or maybe just to jerk our collective chains.

Pass have been round in far too many circles with Mail alone (am well versed in setting up the application). Nor is Mail the only issue with 10.11 My fear is same as 10.10 was for many; by teh time Apple get their act together (if at all) the OS will be at the end of it`s needlessly short 12 month cycle, then the dice roll again on 10.12, this I don't need.

Strictly from a business point of view I need the OS to be stable, applications to work as expected. The current 12 month cycle of OS X clearly fly`s in the face of this, as 10.11 so eloquently illustrates, nor do I want to be locked into older hardware until Apple is capable of delivering a stable OS.

As I am approaching refreshing much of my hardware, early 2016 getting out of this cycle that Apple has created seems prudent given current issues with El Capitan irrespective of Apple`s upcoming hardware. Windows 10 is not perfect, equally it`s making good progress, nor will the OS turn on it`s head every 12 months.

This is exactly my situation on a brand new iMac Retina.
