Every like three months or so, I have this problem with Mail where it'll crash, then I'll reopen it and it'll crash again. Reopen, crash again. Then when I open it the next time I have to re-add all of my account and import everything! This sucks! (It just happened again right now.)

I'm so sick of this. Does anyone else have this problem? I can't make it disappear.

I'd consider visiting MacFixit.com. They have a LOT of knowledge there. As for mail... never heard of that issue, although I am not terribly pleased with it. What it DOES do that I need is sync easily between my several computers and locations. Priceless.

coming from Windows mail apps, I've used mail for a month and have nothing to say against it.

Have you though or reinstalling it ?

First: Do you have current backup of your Mail (in Tiger it's located in the folder ~/Library/Mail/)?

Do you use Panther (10.3.x) or Tiger (10.4.x)?

Do you have any 3rd party Mail plug-ins (aka bundles) installed?

Have you tried Mail from another user account on your Mac? (Make one if necessary.)

One possible fix: Try deleting (or rather moving and/or renaming) ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist, then start Mail, set up your mail account(s) again (unfortunatley the accounts are deleted, but all your mails are "safe" in the above mentioned Mail folder, and should reappear when the accounts are set up again).

My Mail program went through a thing that was similar, it would launch a bunch of times and then quit whenever I clicked on anything. Turned out to be a font problem.

This page was a godsend in that situation, should help you out too.

It probably is a font problem, because I was just able to reproduce that behavior by leaving a GoDaddy Domain Renewal notification thing open and quitting out. When I launched again, crashed again. :(

I hope Apple straightens this out soon... luckily I had a backup of a previous preference file this time.
