Folks, I sure hope someone can help, as this is quite annoying. I was formerly in the Beta program for OS X (quit after this Mail mess) and for about a month now, my reply/new mail windows open in all kinds of random locations. They used to open in the same spot - wherever I had the most recent email closed or sent. Now, they will open far right, far left, up high, down low, all over the place, and I can't figure it out.

I've looked online for help, and found that if you delete the com.apple.mail.plist file, then restart Mail, it should fix it. No such luck for me.

Any help?????

it was in Library, Preferences - now it's not there anymore at all, and I don't see it anywhere on my system

I think you were in the wrong Library.

The path on my El Capitan is:
Macintosh HD>Users>(user folder name)>Library (invisible folder)>Containers>com.apple.mail>Data>Library>Preferences>com.apple.mail.plist

The way to get to the invisible Library folder in the user folder:
Click on a blank space on the desktop to get to Finder.
Hold the option key and select Go>Library (the Library selection is only available in the Go menu when the option key is pressed).

I've deleted that file already, in the hopes it would fix the situation, but it did not

How are you looking for the file? If I use Spotlight to search for the com.apple.mail.plist file it does not find it, but if I click through the path I posted the file is there. If I use Find Any File app or EasyFind app to search for com.apple.mail.plist they will find 30+ locations. You do not want the versions in Frameworks areas, only the location I posted.

Thanks for the location - I deleted that com.apple.mail.plist file also, restarted mail, opened an email window, it did the same thing - opened in a random location. I moved it, sent the email, hit 'reply' on another email, it opened in a different location. I closed that one, hit reply to another, it opened in another different location. Still random selections. Is there a way to code the file so that it opens in the same spot with the same window size? It used to do this, with no issues

Reinstall the OS might help.

I'm at the limit of my knowledge and experience of Mail. While I have used Mail, I'm not a regular user since it does support the way I configure my accounts. Hopefully someone else can help.
