Hi,

Other than the camera (which I'm not particularly bothered about) are there any known major differences b/w the upcoming iPhone 12 and the 12 Pro?

Screen nits/brightness or resolution or anything like that? Both of them are going to have amoled screens so that's why I'm asking. I typically get the Pro model but this year there seems to be a much narrower difference b/w the two models.

Thanks

I suspect ‘Promotion’ will Be the main highlight between both models. That, and other added colors, aesthetics, ect.

Promotion should't happen this year.
Probably better OLED with 10bit colours support or higher brightness, better telephoto (night mode, or 3x zoom...), 6GB RAM, better Portraits thanks to Lidar...

This is interesting because I was so set on the 12 Pro but with no 120hz display, smaller notch and the fact i never use telephoto lens on my 11 Pro, I really don't know why i'd get the Pro over the 12 Plus model.

I don't care about the steel frame or Lidar, The lower end now have OLED instead of 750p LCD and 12 Plus 6.1" is the same size as the 12 Pro 6.1"

What really would the selling point be over the 12 models now?

I went for the 11 Pro last year due to the camera's, but I'm really not sure this year.
Unless there's some key standout things we don't know about yet, then I might just save some money and go for the standard 12. I'm excited for the new form factor though.

See for me it’s all about the telephoto Zoom. I could never buy an iPhone without at least 2x optical.

Extra RAM (6GB) will be helpful going forward. Originally Pro were the only models to get mmWave, but that seems to have changed.

Pro might still get ProMotion or some sort of faster refresh rate.

My iPad Pro for work has Lidar seems unnecessary to me. Though I haven’t tried taking portraits with it.

Very little seeing as there will be no pro motion.

so basically you are paying more for ram/stainless steel and better colour

So far the difference seems to be:

- Quality of regular wide angle lens (Kuo calls it "low-end" vs "high-end")
- 4GB vs. 6GB RAM
- 8-bit vs. 10-bit display colors
- Telephoto and ToF sensor
- Normal notch vs. smaller notch
- Aluminum vs. stainless steel

Hope it's not just the rumored Midnight Blue, especially if it is similar to MG where it near always looks dark gray or black unless the light is perfect. Wish they would have the Cosmic Blue that was rumored for 11P(M)

- Normal notch vs. smaller notch
This is definitely the one that will determine 12P vs 12PM if I do decide to upgrade. 11PM is already getting to the end of how big I like. If they can't get the 12PM body close to the 11PM, I am going for regular 12P.

They are now saying the notch will be the same

Just little research.
Stainless steel is 2.5x heavier than aluminium. But aluminium and stainless steel costs about same or, sometimes is aluminium more expensive. But stainless steel looks like precious metal (gold, silver..) and because that is used as a "premium" material - but it is only premium look. Gold looks more premium than paper money 😀 but costs same.

"so basically you are paying more for ram/stainless steel and better colour"

or

- Better telephoto lenses than previous year (maybe night mode, or 3x zoom)
- 6GB Ram (less app reloading - better battery life?)
- Better OLED (maybe 120hz, 10bit, higher brightness, or lower power consumption=better battery life)
- Lidar (maybe better portrait mode ?)
- Smaller bezels

I think that Apple know how sell Pro models 😊
12s will look like 11 maybe with smaller notch and squared aluminium, but Pro will have much more premium look I think 😀

Did I hear that the IPhone 12 was 4G and the 12 Pro is 5G?

What I don’t get is why there would be two 6.1 devices if they are all going OLED now anyway 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️

Rumoured today that there is no stainless steel and they're going for some new space grade aluminium on all models.
Sounds like the rumor is they are ditching the back glass for “ultra-resistant aerospace metal shell” aka aluminum.
